The short version

Wayaroo has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Your trips and settings stay on your phone.

Your location

If you allow it, your phone's location is used in the app to centre the map, plan a trip from where you are, and record a drive. Wayaroo does not save your location on its server. When you plan a route, the start and end points are sent to the routing service to work out the route, and are not stored by Wayaroo.

Trips, fuel spend and settings

Saved trips, your car's fuel use, language and map settings are kept in your browser on this device only. You can delete trips at any time in Spend, or clear them by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Reports you send

When you report a pothole, hazard, faulty traffic light or wrong fuel price, Wayaroo stores the type, the place on the map, your optional note and the time. It is shown to other Wayaroo users and deleted after 14 days. Wayaroo does not store your name, account or IP address with a report (a scrambled form of the internet address is kept with points, only to stop people confirming their own reports). Please don't include personal details in notes.

Safe driving and savings scores

Safe driving scores and money-saved totals stay on your phone.

Points and leaderboard

To give you points, your phone makes a random code and keeps it in this browser. The Wayaroo server stores only a scrambled (hashed) form of that code, your nickname (random until you change it), your points, streak and badges, and which reports you checked, so nobody can check the same report twice. Nicknames and points are shown on the public leaderboard. To start again, clear this site's data in your browser.

Parking timer

Where you parked, your time limit, price and note stay in your browser on this device. Wayaroo doesn't take payments; the links open the official parking apps, which have their own privacy policies.

Other services

Your browser loads map images from OpenFreeMap and the map engine from unpkg, so those services see your internet address, like any website. The same goes for things you choose to open: traffic camera photos come straight from the road authority, radio plays straight from the station, NASA photos come from NASA, and 3D hills come from Amazon's open terrain tiles. Searches, routes, weather and other data are fetched by the Wayaroo server for you, so those providers see the Wayaroo server rather than you.

Sponsored spots (ads)

Wayaroo is free because local businesses can pay to show one clearly labelled Sponsored spot. To choose one, the app sends the Wayaroo server only what you just searched for and the map's rough position (rounded to about 1 km). Wayaroo doesn't build a profile of you, doesn't track you across other apps or websites, and doesn't sell or share your information with advertisers. The server only counts how many times each ad was shown and tapped each day. Ads are never shown while you're driving or navigating.

If the iPhone app also shows Google AdMob ads, they are set to non-personalised: Google doesn't use your activity to choose them and Wayaroo never asks to track you. Google may still collect device and usage information to show and measure ads; see Google's ad policies.

Contact and complaints

Questions, requests to see or delete information you sent (such as a report), or complaints: email support@wayaroo.com. If you're not happy with the answer you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
